Monasteries in Bucovina

There are many of these in Bucovina renowned
for the beautiful and well preserved (500 years)
frescoes, both internal and external.
Seven are UNESCO world heritage listed,
with an eighth under consideration at present.
The monasteries (many still functioning)
were built after a historic event
(usually a battle victory) and the frescoes
were to educate illiterate peasants about the
bible or event.
They are quite beautiful, particularly inside (no photos allowed) - Lester call them "heavily tattoed churches"!
